Macclesfield Town Football Club: The
League Story So Far, will leave those who
have been unable to witness the
Silkmen’s progress first hand feeling as if
they were actually present.
This fascinating new book is a must-read for all fans!
Macclesfield Town won promotion to the
Football League in 1997 at the second attempt and
have enjoyed continuous membership at that level for
the past 12 years. Their trials, tribulations and
triumphs are narrated within these pages, with an
emphasis on events on the field of play; although the
more dramatic off-the-field happenings have also been
included.
Competing as one of the smallest clubs has not
always been easy, but there have been many inspired
moments – from a single season in the former
Nationwide Second Division, victories over higher
League opposition in Cup competitions, to being Playoff
semi-finalists one season and losing Northern Area
Finalists in the Football League Trophy in another.
Over the years there have been brilliant individual
performances.
Many younger players have developed
their skills at the club with some moving on to play at
a higher level, while more experienced players have
become legends in their own time.
This book has been written by a fan for the fans, as
a record of Macclesfield Town’s progress and to act as
a memory jogger. For anyone who has not been able to
witness the Silkmen’s progress first hand, you will be
left with the feeling that you could very well have been
present.
GEOFFREY KNIGHTS has supported Macclesfield
Town for the past 20 years, and over much of this time
he has kept detailed statistics and records on the club
which have been used in response to media, club and
other enquiries. He has also contributed to the club’s
programme and for the past 10 years he has provided
the Macclesfield Town entries in the annual
publication, The PFA Footballers’ Who’s Who.
Although there are no official appointments as such at
the club, he is acknowledged as the club’s statistician
and modern-day historian.
